Angels for Kids, Mentors for Life is the annual giving campaign for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale in which 100% of all proceeds support youth development programs. The campaign's theme reflects the strong and valuable mentoring members receive from staff and volunteers. Mentoring helps our youth in their personal and educational development as well as prepares them to become future mentors and community leaders.
We officially kick off this year’s campaign on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Angels for Kids, Mentors for Life “An Evening with Angels” Reception at Salt River Fields. In addition to recognizing our outstanding youth and staff mentors, the program includes special guest Luis Gonzalez, former World Series Champion with the Arizona Diamondbacks and special assistant to the Arizona Diamondbacks President. This invitation-only event is well attended by local community and business leaders who want to help local kids served by the organization.
If you are interested in learning more about how you can become an Angel, please contact Larry Dorame at 480.344.5684 or visit the Angels for Kids, Mentors for Life web page.
About the Keynote Speaker

Luis Gonzalez
One of the most popular figures in Arizona Diamondbacks’ history, Luis Gonzalez is currently a Special Assistant to the President and CEO of the oragnizaiton. Most noted for the way he interacts with fans and his game-winning single in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series to give the organization its first World Championship, Gonzalez rejoined the organization in August 2009 after officially retiring as a player following his 19-year Major League career.
In his role, Gonzalez assists D-backs’ President & CEO Derrick Hall and other departments throughout the baseball and business side of the organization. He also continues to make an impact in the community with the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, interacts with season ticket holders at special events, meets with corporate partners, fills in on the D-backs’ radio and television broadcasts and spends time with minor and Major League players throughout the organization. Gonzalez also interacts with children at the team’s Training Center camps and participates in the annual week-long Fantasy Camp. His Going Gonzo for Kids initiative that he started in 2010 through the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation contributed $100,000 in its first year to a variety of Arizona-based children’s charities.
