BE GREAT. This year's theme of BE GREAT will be reflected throughout the gala. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale believes every child has the potential to BE GREAT. In support of this strong conviction, we strive to build caring, responsible citizens. Our family of staff, volunteers, parents, youth, and supporters work together to create a positive place, full of hope and opportunity for every child. Whether you are donor, alumnus, or volunteer, we can all pitch in to help kids BE GREAT.

BE A ROLE MODEL.

2009 Youth of the Year Peter Anderelli
Peter participated in a variety of programs as a member of the Mary Ellen & Robert McKee Branch located in Fountain Hills for three years. Whether assisting kids in the homework room, volunteering for community service projects, or participating in Keystone Club - a small group leadership development program for youth ages 14 to 18 - Peter made the most of his Boys & Girls Clubs experience not only for himself but for other members. Peter is a recent graduate of Fountain Hills High School where he served in several leadership roles, including student body president, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Peter is currently a freshman at Arizona State University and is pursuing a career as a middle school math teacher. He said he choose to attend college in the Valley so he can continue to be engaged with the organization. "The people and programs at the Club gave me the tools to be successful in life. I want to continue that legacy of inspiration by demonstrating to others that you can achieve your dreams with hard work and by believing in yourself."
BE INSPIRED. The highlight of the evening is the presentation and speeches of the nine candidates vying for the honor of the 2010 Youth of the Year. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America "Youth of the Year" program is a premier character and leadership initiative which has been in existence for over 60 years. Recipients of the award are determined by candidates' demonstration of service to the Club, community and family, academic performance, moral character, life goals, leadership, poise and public speaking ability. Youth of the Year is the highest honor given to members of the organization.
